How this calculator works

How to use it

Open the settings panel above and set your commission rate and weekly income goal. Then, for each day, tap "Add Groom" once per dog you groom, entering that groom's price and tip. There's no hours field on this page, since hours play no part in commission-only pay. Your week's revenue, commission, and take-home update automatically as you type.

You're paid a percentage of what you bring in, and nothing else

No hourly rate, no floor. Your gross pay is your commission rate times the grooming revenue you personally generated that week. Tips are separate and entirely yours on top of that. A slow week is a slow paycheck, with nothing underneath it -- and that's exactly why this calculator doesn't ask for an hourly rate or hours worked. Neither one plays any part in what you're actually paid.

Why this arrangement exists

This is common for experienced groomers, booth renters, and mobile operators. It isn't a worse deal by definition -- it's a different distribution of risk, and it usually comes with a meaningfully higher percentage than a tiered hourly-plus-commission structure would offer, because the salon isn't funding an hourly guarantee out of the same revenue pool.

Ask what comes out before the percentage

Under commission only, the percentage gets all the attention and the number it's applied to gets none. Confirm whether your rate applies to the full service price or to a reduced base after product costs or add-on splits are pulled out. A 50 percent rate on a reduced base is not really a 50 percent rate, and it's worth knowing which one you actually have before you compare offers.

Not on this pay type?

Paid a base rate too, with commission only kicking in above it? Use the hourly vs. commission calculator instead. Paid a flat hourly rate with no commission at all? Use the hourly only calculator.
